Understanding Hay Fever Injections: Your Essential Guide

At Fusion Healthcare, we now offer hay fever injections with the aim of reducing or completely alleviating severe symptoms for the entire season.

Our in-house GP will carry out a health assessment to establish whether an injection is the best route for you before proceeding. There are a number of health conditions that a patient may have which would prevent them from being suitable to have a hay fever injection. A few of these conditions include:

  • Diabetes
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Glaucoma
  • Active infection
  • Epilepsy

Therefore, our clinicians carry out a thorough assessment to ensure that going forward with this treatment is the best option for you. Our clinicians provide a controlled dose of medication in relation to your symptoms.

Hay fever is caused by your immune system reacting to pollen’s, potentially resulting in severe symptoms, which can have a detrimental effect on one’s quality of life. A hay fever injection can reduce such effects.

Hay fever injections are no longer privately available on the NHS; so, at Fusion Radiology, we take pride in the fact that we can offer a high-quality service to suit your needs.

The injection consists of a steroid capable of supressing the body’s immune response when it overreacts, without the need for additional medications.  It is an intramuscular injection administered in the ventrogluteal site, with one Injection generally being enough to target symptoms for the entire season.

Our hay fever injection is capable of easing symptoms for an extended period of time, however, there are minimal associated side effects. Potential side effects include:

  • Swelling
  • Abdominal pain
  • Insomnia
  • Itching
  • Raised blood pressure
  • Raised blood sugar
